Abstract
In dogs with the stomach divided into 2 isolated pouches (pyloric antrum and gastric body), irrigation of the pyloric pouch with 0.5% soln. of acetylcholine bromide produced strong stimulation of acid secretion by the glands of the corpus. This juice was low in pepsin content like that secreted in response to histamine injn., and unlike the high-pepsin juice which resulted from stimulation with Urecholine injd. subcut. When the acetylcholine soln. was given by subcut. injn. or by instillation into the duodenum, rectum or corpus pouch, acid secretion was not stimulated. Irrigation of the pyloric pouch with physiological saline soln. or with 0.5% soln. of nicotine sulfate also failed to stimulate acid secretion. Keywords
