The Absolute Configuration of a Sesquiterpene Enone From Stevia purpurea and a Phenol From Lasianthaea podocephala

Abstract
(6S,1'R)-6-(1',5'-Dimethylhex-4'-enyl)-3-methylcyclohex-2-enone (1a) has been prepared and found to be the enantiomer of an enone obtained from Stevia purpurea. Oxidation of enone (1a) gives (R)-2-(1',5'-dimethylhex-4'-enyl)-5-methylphenol, identical with a natural product from Lasianthaea podocephala.
