Abstract

This study examined the similarities and differences in characteristics of learning disabled males staffed into resource programs and those staffed into self-contained programs. The performance of the 35 self-contained and 50 resource students was compared on the Weschler Intelligence Scale for Children, the Picture Story Language Test, the Peabody Individual Achievement Test, the Wide Range Achievement Test, and selected subtests of the Detroit Test of Learning Aptitude. The subjects were also compared on the factors of retention, chronological age, and a subjective index of behavior. Results of a discriminant function indicated a difference only in the intelligence factor between the two groups. Findings related to the use of the preceding variables for discrimination of L.D. placement are discussed and implications for personnel training are reviewed.
