Hydraulic Conductivity in Trees

Abstract
Hydraulic conductivity in woody-stemmed plants is reviewed and published determinations collated and statistically analysed. Confusion between the expressions for conductivity andspecific or relative conductivity are clarified, and their relationship established. Generalizations from the data are examined and attention drawn to systematic errors present in relative conductivity determinations. Estimates of maximum possible stress in water columns of tress are made from published values of relative conductivity and transpiration stream velocity.
