Abstract
Technics for obtaining, handling and analyzing blood, urine and body ash of the lizard, A. carolinensis, are descr. The avg. fasting values are: Blood[long dash]hematocrit 28%, erythrocytes 0.96 x 106/cu. mm., O2 capacity 9.3 vols. %, Na 130 mM./l., K 31.8 mM./l., Cl 105 mM./l., CO2 14.0 mM./L, protein 11.5%, uric acid 7.9 mg. %, urea 7.2 mg. %, NH3 traces, glucose 172 mg. %; Plasma[long dash]pH 7.26, Na 157 mM./l., K 4.59 mM./l., Cl 127 mM./l., CO2 15.4 mM./l., Ca 2.9 mM./l., P 2.6 mM./l, protein 4.1%; Urine[long dash]pH 5.54, Na 20.2 mM./L, K 17.1 mM./l., Cl 23.4 mM./l., CO2 traces, uric acid N 45.6 mg. %, urea N 8.8 mg. %, NH3 N 8.2 mg. %,creatinine N 1.3 mg. %. The following is the avg. composition of the ash of 5 animals: wt. of animal 3.34 g., dry wt. 1.09 g., ash 155 mg., Na 2.73 mg., K 5.60 mg., Ca 51.3 mg., Mg 1.26 mg., Cl 3.44 mg.
