Abstract
Besides the usual phosphoesterase, activity optimum pH 9-10, animal organs (pig kidney and liver, beef liver) contain a second phosphoesterase with activ-ity optimum at pH 5-6. While the "alkaline" phos-phoesterase is activated 15-20 fold by Mg ions, the "acid" phosphoesterase is unaffected. Both enzymes are determined by measurement of glycerophosphate hydrolysis.
