EFFECT OF EPINEPHRINE ON GLUCOSE EXCRETION IN FASTED DEPANCREATIZED DOGS

Abstract
14 depancreatized dogs in good nutritional condition were fasted for 3 days. Urine specimens were obtained by catheterization for the 2 12-hr. periods of the 3d day of fasting and for the following 12-hr. period during which epinephrine in 1 mgm. doses was administered at 3-hr. intervals. Total N and glucose were detd. on each specimen. The total known available sources of glucose far exceeded the extra glucose excreted during the period of epinephrine administration, the extra glucose being approximately equal to the glucose available from muscle glycogen. This experiment furnished no evidence of gluconeogene-sis from fatty acids.
