Abstract
Many, but not all, epidemiological studies have suggested that serum uric acid is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.1-9 Increased serum uric acid levels are linked to obesity, dyslipidemia, and hypertension (insulin resistance or syndrome X), all of which are also associated with increased risk for cardiovascular disease.3 However, the specific role of serum uric acid in this constellation remains uncertain.10
