Abstract
THE literature concerning gastrointestinal bleeding as a complication of peptic ulcer is very extensive. Many of the studies reported, however, lack documentation of bleeding, proof of the presence of ulcer and, particularly, a specific appraisal of the frequency of recurrent hemorrhage after surgery for peptic ulcer. This report is concerned with the course of patients with well documented gastrointestinal bleeding and known duodenal ulceration over a period of five years or longer, as well as with the influence of subtotal gastrectomy upon the occurrence of subsequent gastrointestinal bleeding. The data emphasize the long-term prognostic gravity of bleeding as a manifestation . . .Keywords
