Abstract
The biosynthesis of heme and the possible control mechanism of this process are discussed. Pathology of heme biosynthesis is illustrated by the examples: pyrodoxin deficiency, lead poisoning and erythropoietic porphyria. Biosynthesis of the globin polypeptide chains is reviewed. A scheme of hemoglobin synthesis in the light of recent knowledge is postulated. Keywords
