Observation ofY*+(1385)K+andN*++(1236)ρ0Decays of a Nucleon Resonance

Abstract

An analysis of $p-p$ interactions at 6 BeV/c indicates the presence of a $T=\frac{3}{2}$ nucleon resonance with mass near 2.0 ${\mathrm{B}\mathrm{e}\mathrm{V}/\mathit{c}}^2$, with decay modes $Y^{*++}\mathrm{}\left(1385\right)\mathrm{}{K}^{+}$, $N^{*++}\mathrm{}\left(1236\right)\mathrm{}{\rho }^0$, and $N^{*++}\mathrm{}\left(1236\right)\mathrm{}{\pi }^{+}{\pi }^{-}$. A peripheral production model for the reaction $\mathrm{pp}\to n{N}^{*++}\mathrm{}\left(1950\right)\mathrm{}$ gives excellent agreement with the data, with a cross section for $N^{*++}\mathrm{}\left(1950\right)\mathrm{}$ production and subsequent decay into $Y^{*+}{K}^{+}$ of 13±3 μb.
