A Study of Mitral Stenosis by Combined Catheterization of the Left and Right Sides of the Heart

Abstract
SIMULTANEOUS catheterization of the left and right sides of the heart for evaluation of mitral and aortic stenosis has recently been reported.1 2 3 4 The effects of mitral stenosis upon the pulmonary circulation and cardiac output have been extensively investigated by right-sided catheterization.5 6 7 With the introduction of left-sided catheterization a method of accurate measurement of pressure gradient across a stenotic orifice became available.8 9 10 With the subsequent application of combined heart catheterization a more accurate evaluation of pressure-flow relations, as well as estimation of orifice size, can be obtained. Methods and MaterialsOne hundred and twenty patients with mitral stenosis were studied by . . .
