Abstract
The mobilities of atomic and molecular helium ions were measured with an apparatus similar to that described by Biondi and Chanin, but with some modifications. Three species of ions were found. For the mobility of atomic ions a value of μ0(He+) = 10.6 ± 0.15 cm2/V s, for that of the two species of molecular ions μ0(He2+) = 16.0 ± 0.28 cm2/V s, and μ0(He2+) = 20.4 ± 0.26 cm2/V s have been obtained at 296 °K. The three kinds of mobilities have been measured in the temperature range from 195 to 665 °K. The mobility of the atomic ions decreased with the rise of temperature, while the mobilities of both molecular ions increased. The measurement results have been compared with those of theoretical calculations found in the literature. Keywords
