The glucuronidase content of animal tissues and the role of the spleen in the metabolism of conjugated glucuronic acids

Abstract

In rabbits 95% of the total glucuronidase is contained in the liver and only about 1.5% in the spleen. In the rat the figures are 60 and 25% resp. Other organs contribute only about 2% in the rabbit and 5% in the rat. In the rabbit, the normal output of glucuronic acid and the % conjugation of 1-menthol with glucuronic acid are both increased in the first 2 wks. after splenectomy and then fall back to normal.
