MIDBRAIN EVOKED RESPONSES RELATING TO PERIPHERAL UNMYELINATED OR ‘C’ FIBERS IN CAT

Abstract
Utilizing oscillographic monitoring of the stimulated peripheral nerve and a faradic current for blocking the myelinated fibers, evoked activity relating to repetitively stimulated unmyelinated somatic sensory nerves was demonstrated in the ventral tegmentum. The area of recording lay at the level of the oculomotor nucleus, dorsomedial to the red nucleus. At this level of the neuraxis no somatotopic localization was found.
