Abstract
An e.s.r. study of [Co(salen)] in different solvents revealed that the electronic configuration (dyz)2(dzx)2(dxy)2(dz2)1(dx2y2)0 is required for the compound to be able to oxygenate, while another configuration (dyz)2(dzx)2-(dz2)2(dx2y2)0 which is realized in certain solvents does not permit oxygenation of the compound at room temperature.
