Abstract
Intensity-dependent fluorescence line-shape asymmetries have been observed for two-level atoms in a standing-wave excitation field. These asymmetries are attributed to the force experienced by the induced atomic dipoles in the field gradient of the standing wave. Preliminary calculations support the experimental observations. Keywords
