Abstract
The open-top horizontal freezer containing a refrigerated microtome has all of the advantages of the conventional vertical cryostat. It offers additional advantages, in that it is more stable and easier to operate. Simplicity of design leads to economy of construction. Application of this simple principle makes the construction of a cryostat economically feasible for anyone who has an open-top deep freeze and a microtome.
