Observations on the chemistry of muscle glycogen

Abstract
Liver and muscle glycogens exhibit no very great differences in the properties examined. The mean [d]6 of purified muscle glycogen (+192[degree]) cannot be considered as significantly different from that of liver glycogen ( +196[degree]). Some muscle glycogen solutions differed from those of liver glycogen in opalescence and in coloration with iodine, but these differences were not associated with a significant difference in mean particle weight. Claude Bernard''s statement that the glycogen accumulating in resting, previously fatigued rabbit muscle "donne par l''iode une coloration tout a fait bleue comme de l''amidon" could not be confirmed.
