Effects of Protracted Exposure to a Loud Tone

Abstract
Protracted stimulation by loud tones of medium pitch (1,000 and 3,000 cycles) induced in dogs an almost horizontal subsidence in auditory acuity throughout an extensive section of the audible range. No sign of functional restoration appeared as much as 31 days after the last exposure. Interrupted tones proved extremely effective in acoustic impairment. 3 possible explanations are suggested.
