Three-dimensional reconstruction of rigor insect flight muscle from tilted thin sections

Abstract
Rigor cross-bridges show 2 conformations paired within each 38.7-nm axial repeat. The 2 forms may express 2 stages of the cross-bridge cycle during contraction. Differing numbers of myosin heads per cross-bridge and associated helical changes in the thin filament distinguish the 2 forms and suggest that both myosin heads usually bind to a single thin filament.
