Abstract
Exposure of male albino Wistar rats (225-275 g) to 6 parts per million ozone by volume for 4 hours resulted in a significant decrease in brain 5-hydroxy-tryptamine (5-HT) from a mean control value of 0.63 [plus or minus] 0.14 ug/g to a mean of 0.39 + 0.10 for the ozone-exposed group. A small increase in mean brain weight (8%) possibly representing brain edema, was noted. Dilution by edema was not sufficient to account for the 38% decrease in brain 5-HT content. Keywords
