Effects of Hydrostatic Pressure on the Compensation Temperatures of Iron Garnets

Abstract
We have measured the variation of the temperature of the compensation point, θc, of several garnet ferrites as a function of hydrostatic pressure p, up to 6 kbar. One observes that dθc/dp is positive and decreases from 0.95×10−3 °K·bar−1 for GdIG to 0.38×10−3 °K·bar−1 for HoIG. The value dθc/dp yields information about the variation with pressure of the exchange interaction between the iron and rare earth ions.
