The theory of acoustic paramagnetic resonance of V3+in MgO

Abstract
The theory of the V3+ ion in MgO is developed using a model which takes into account Jahn-Teller effects and tetragonal distortions in the cubic ground state 3T1g. Reasonable numerical assumptions using published data lead to values of the various parameters which are consistent with recently published acoustic parametric resonance results. The Ham reduction factor is deduced to be approximately 0.15 and the energy level diagram for the low-lying states of the V3+ ion is obtained.
