Antidotal Efficacy of Vitamin B12a (Hydroxo-Cobalamin) in Experimental Cyanide Poisoning

Abstract
Vit. B12a (hydroxo-cobalamin), but not vit. B12 (cyano-cobalamin), prevents toxic symptoms and death in mice admin- istered CN-. Even when vit. B12a was injd. into mice exhibiting complete respiratory arrest and coma due to CN- poisoning, it effected rapid recovery of most animals. In mice injd. with KCN followed by vit. Bl2a, some of the CN- appeared in the urine as SCN-, but a greater percentage appeared as vit. B12, which was formed by reacting with the vit. B12a.
