HEALTH HAZARD FROM AUTOMOBILE EXHAUST GAS IN CITY STREETS, GARAGES AND REPAIR SHOPS

Abstract
The exhaust gas of automobiles is extremely poisonous. Even when entirely odorless, colorless and free from soot, it is much more poisonous than any ordinary form of smoke. This fact is well established, and in recent years has been widely published both in scientific journals and in popular magazines and the daily papers. Nevertheless, the public is in large part either still ignorant of it, or acts as if it were ignorant. No mere dissemination of information will stop drivers and mechanics from taking chances. Positive protection for the public and removal of danger for the careless individual are needed. The conditions in streets which result in exhaust gas invading shops, offices and even residences have reached a point beyond which they should not be allowed to grow worse.
