Electron irradiation of uranium at 7°K

Abstract
Two samples of uranium were irradiated at a temperature of 7°K with 1.7 Mev electrons. The increase of the electrical resistivity as a function of the total electron flux has been measured. It was found that the curve of damage produced versus electron flux exhibits a positive curvature. Isochronal annealings performed after irradiation show that the low temperature annealing behaviour of electron produced defects in uranium is identical to that of the lattice defects produced by low temperature quenches. The implications of these results are discussed.
