Zur Kenntnis der Pygidialblasensubstanzen vom Gelbrandkäfer (Dytiscus marginalis L.)

Abstract
After separation of the secretion of the pygidial glands of Dytiscus marginalis into its pure components by means of fractional microzone melting and thin layer chromatography p-hydroxbenzaldehyde and p-hydroxybenzoic acid methyl ester were identified in addition to benzoic acid. This preservative used for preservation of fish apparently is used also by the diving beetle for protection against microorganisms.
