Abstract
The equation of state of a one‐dimensional gas of hard lines is calculated exactly using a lattice‐gas description. The role of many‐body interference effects is studied and found to include an effective repulsion with a logarithmic singularity for compact arrangements of molecules. A sequence of successive approximations is introduced and the rate of convergence to the exact result investigated. Keywords
