Abstract
Alkylaminobisdichlorophosphines RN(PCl2)2[R = Me, Et] are readily synthesised by the reaction between phosphorus trichloride and the appropriate amine hydrochloride in sym-tetrachloroethane, in the presence or absence of pyridine. Fluorination of alkylaminobisdichlorophosphines with antimony trifluoride produces the corresponding alkylaminobisdifluorophosphines RN(PF2)2. The latter react quantitatively with hydrogen chloride with cleavage of both phosphorus–nitrogen bonds but form no stable complex with boron trifluoride. I.r. and Raman spectra and proton n.m.r. data are presented and discussed.
