Abstract
Radioactive P has been used to study possible phosphate interchanges in repeated single twitches of cat muscles contracting with normal blood supply. No evidence was found that the oxidative contraction process involves interchanges between phosphocreatine, adenosine triphosphate, or hexose-monophosphate, nor any increased exchange of intra- cellular inorganic P with plasma P. Neither the phos-phorylating glycolysis nor the enzyme function of myosin are concerned directly with the chemistry of muscular contraction.
