Abstract
CANDIDA infection contracted in utero and manifest at birth is a rare event. The present report deals with an infant delivered at thirty-two weeks' gestation by cesarean section. The membranes were intact at the time of delivery. He died at thirty-four hours of age. Candidiasis was diagnosed at birth and confirmed at autopsy. We believe this to be the first fully documented case of congenitally acquired systemic candidiasis.Case ReportA male infant was delivered by cesarean section after 32 weeks' gestation.
