Experimental Dental Caries, IV. The Effect of Feeding Desiccated Thyroid and Thiouracil on Dental Caries in Rats

Abstract
The addition of dessicated thyroid to the diet reduced the incidence of dental caries to the same degree as NaF alone. The addition of both dessicated thyroid and 20 ppm. NaF reduced caries incidence 5.5%. The addition of 20 ppm. NaF to the drinking water of rats receiving thiouracil is without effect on caries. Other factors also indicate the decreased thyroid activity is related to increased caries susceptibility in the rat.
