Abstract
In Fagelsangsdalen in Skane (South Sweden) the field activity of the rodent populations was studied by 2 methods, capture-recapture and magnet-marking of selected specimens. Home range could not be determined for the very mobile species of Apodemus whose movement pattern changed according to season. In summer they left the narrow valley and went foraging in the adjacent arable fields. Their general movements during the year were studied by indivual marking of selected specimens. Clethrionomys glareolus was found to be very sedentary in the valley. It was possible to follow individuals for a long time and to determine their home-ranges. Average home range was 600 m2 for adult females of C. glareolus and 2000 m2 for adult males. The home ranges of the males of the 3 species examined generally exceeded those of the females, particularly during the reproductive period.
