Attractants for the Western Pine Shoot Borer, Eucosma sonomana , 1 and Rhyacionia zozana Determined by Field Screening 2

Abstract
Males of the western pine shoot borer, Eucosma sonomana Kearfott, were attracted to a mixture of E -9 and Z-9-dodecenyl acetates. Maximum attraction occurred with between 5 and 50% E -isomer. Extracts of female abdomen tips appeared to contain these materials at E :Z ratios of between 1:3 and 1:2. The presence of Z-11-tetradecenyl acetate inhibited the response of E. sonomana to these attractants. While screening materials for E. sonomana , the related (Eucosmini) species Rhyacionia zozana (Kearfott) also was trapped.
