Abstract
The results obtained with comparative double diffusion suggest the presence of at least 5 antigenic determinants in the 3 different acute phase proteins. One factor is common to all 3 species, another is found in man and monkey but not demonstrable in rabbit, while 3 others are probably specific for man, rabbit and old world monkey, respectively. The findings obtained with immunoelectro-phoretic analysis indicate 4 electrophoretically distinct groups of molecules in human acute phase [C-reactive] protein which could not, however, be immunologically differentiated by the techniques employed. A similar electrophoretic heterogeneity was revealed in acute phase proteins from monkey and rabbit. They differed from each other and from human C-reactive protein in electromobility.
