On-Line Alpha Spectroscopy of Neutron-Deficient Actinium Isotopes

Abstract
Isotopes of actinium lighter than mass 216 were studied at the Berkeley heavy-ion linear accelerator by bombardment of Bi209 with C12, enriched Tl205 and Tl203 with O16, and Au197 with Ne20. Silicon (Au) surface-barrier detectors were used in on-line measurements to determine α-decay characteristics. Mass-number assignments of Ac209 through Ac215 were made on the basis of excitation functions, genetic relationships with radium isotopes, and systematic trends in α-decay energies. Half-lives and α-particle energies were determined.
