Growth and Fruiting Development of Normal and Terminal-Damaged Cotton Plants

Abstract

Terminal damage to cotton, Gossypium hirsutum L., causes an initial decrease in growth and fruit development. This decrease appears to be less when damage occurs later in the growth period. Terminal damage does not change the relative allocation of nutrients to the roots, stems, leaves, or fruit; nor does it reduce the number of bolls when the season length is sufficient for compensation to occur.
