Geotrichum candidum

Abstract

Fifty-two strains of G. candidum Link ex Persoon were compared in culture. The species is illustrated and emended so as to separate it clearly from others in the genus. Link''s original description and figure are chosen as lectotype. Common synonyms are Oospora lactis and Oidium lactis. A list of 53 other synonyms is given. G. candidum can be recognized on Sabouraud''s agar by its rapidly growing, flat, white colonies showing dichotomously branching hyphae at the margin.
