The Adolescent Looks at His Health and Medical Care

Abstract
This study attempted to collect data relative to some of the problems, attitudes and opinions of adolescents concerning health information and care. The questionnaire method was used and 690 responses received. The majority (42%) felt they had excellent health; 27% mentioned problems, primarily in the areas of growth and weight, eyes and ears, skin, and diet. The teenagers respected their doctor, and the physician-patient rapport was good, although only 18% discussed personal problems with him. A majority (76%) of the students had questions on personal hygiene, body functions and sex matters. Parents were the initial source of information; doctors and school personnel ranked low on the list.
