AN APPROXIMATE METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE TEMPERATURES REACHED IN STEADY MOTION PROBLEMS OF PLANE PLASTIC STRAIN

Abstract

The problem is resolved into two steps, one involving heat generation and transport, and the other conduction. A numerical and graphical method for solving the problem is given. As an illustrative example, the isothermals for cold extrusion through a smooth square die with a 66.7 per cent. reduction are found. The results are compared with the (analytical) solution obtained when conduction is neglected.
