TETRAIODOTHYROPROPIONIC ACID AND YEAST RESPIRATION1

Abstract
The influence of tetraiodothyropropionic acid (Tetraprop) on the oxidation of glucose by resting cell suspensions of bakers yeast was investigated. Tetraprop accelerated the O2 consumption of the failing system, when the analog was added to the yeast cells simultaneously with phosphate buffer and glucose. However, when the cells were preincubated for 4 hours with the buffer and substrate, prior to the addition of Tetraprop, the respiration was markedly inhibited by the thyroxine analog.
