Abstract
A new optical measurement method for obtaining the temperature of solids during shock compression has been developed. Spectral measurements of thermal radiation produced during shock compression of fused silica have been made, and the shock temperature estimated from the spectrum. This method is less sensitive to variations in emissivity, and has an accuracy of about 3%.Keywords
