Abstract
The cross section for a given change in the kinetic energy of relative motion of two particles, 1 and 2, resulting from elastic collisions of 1 with a third body 3 is expressed in two useful forms. One form is appropriate when sigma (g, phi ), the differential cross section describing (1-3) elastic scattering, is given explicitly in terms of the (1-3) relative velocity g and the scattering angle phi , and the other form is suitable when sigma (g, phi ) reduces to a function only of the momentum transfer.
