Experimentelle und klinische Untersuchungen über die Wirkung des Thephorins

Abstract
Thephorin, a brand of phenindamine (Hoffmann-La Roche Inc.) is a potent antihistaminic agent. Its chemical structure is different from all other known anti-histaminics, which are either ethylenediamine derivatives or closely related diphenylhydramine compounds. Thephorin was given an extensive experimental and clinical trial. Thephorin combines low toxicity with high competitive antihistaminic activity, which was demonstrated in animal expts. (histamine and allergenaerosol method of P. Kallos and W. Pagel, 1937) and in humans with the planimetric (1947) and fluorescence (1949) method of P. Kallos and L. Kallos-Deffiner. Therapeutic expts. gave very satisfactory results under very rigid conditions. Thephorin had no sedative activity and its only side effect was a slight excitation in 3% of cases. Thephorin ointment in carbowax base is effective and well tolerated in cases of allergic dermatoses.
