Abstract
Marked mitotic changes were found in a patient with acute erythremia. Electromicroscopic examination showed ferritin inclusions and extensive vacuolization in the cytoplasm of the erythroblasts. The erythrocytes showed remarkable metabolic and enzymatic anomalies: a reduction of anaerobic glycolysis; reduced incorporation of glucose-1-C14 and glucose-U-C14 and utilization of glycine-1-C14 and cystine-S35; and decreased aldolase and glutamine oxalacetic transaminase activity.
