SOIL GENESIS FROM ANDESITE IN GRENADA, BRITISH WEST INDIES

Abstract
The formation of primary laterite from parent igneous rock and of pink earth and red earth from the laterite is discussed, based on physical, chem., and mineral, anaryses and dye tests of a deep red earth profile formed from andesite under a humid tropical climate. Gibbsitic silication to form secondary kaolinic red earth from primary laterite is postulated. A provisional classification and nomenclature of parent materials of red soils are submitted.
