Air Volume and Air Flow Relationships of Six Male Esophageal Speakers

Abstract
Air volume and flow was investigated in 6 male esophageal speakers who were rated from superior to adequate. Clinical interpretations of this study are: 80-128 words/min is a desirable rate for the esophageal speaker: the phonation time ratio should be a little lower than for a normal speaker. A high rate of air flow is to be encouraged. It is most important that esophageal speakers be allowed to use a variety and combination of air intake methods.
