Abstract
The caeca from 29 animals fed zero, 15%, or 30% lactose diets were recovered at slaughter. Statistical analysis of wet and dry weights and tissue volume measurements indicated that caecum size increased progressively as the dietary level of lactose was increased. The possible implications and effects of this increase in size of the caecum in the growing pig fed a lactose diet are discussed in the light of information obtained principally with rats. Keywords
