Demonstration of Proliferation by Bone Marrow-Derived Lymphocytes of Guinea Pigs, Mice and Rabbits in Response to Mitogen Stimulation in Vitro

Abstract
We have shown by simultaneous complement receptor lymphocyte rosette and radioautographic techniques that guinea pig, mouse, and rabbit bone marrow-derived (B) cells proliferate in vitro in response to phytohemagglutinin, concanavalin A, pokeweed mitogen, and S. typhosa endotoxin lipopolysaccharide. PHA, Con A, and PWM are predominantly thymus-derived (T) cell mitogens in the guinea pig, mouse and rabbit. LPS is predominantly a B cell stimulant in the guinea pig but predominantly a T cell stimulant in the mouse.
